Errol Boyd Whitlock, 80, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 15, 2024. He was born May 25, 1944, in Grass Valley, California, to Boyd F. Whitlock and Lois Marjorie Nielsen. He married Carol Lillian Christiansen on August 14, 1965, in the Manti LDS Temple.
One of Errol’s greatest joys was being together with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Never one to be idle, Dad loved projects and customizing something special for others. Camping, hiking, golfing, horse riding, 4-wheeling, hill climbing, fixing cars at the body shop, and playing ball were a few of his favorites. His family and friends loved him for his kindness, patience, selflessness, and generosity as he used his many talents to bless and bring smiles to those around him.
Errol’s life was full of service. Always accepting church callings too numerous to count; from young men’s advisor, scout leader, temple worker, and baptistry coordinator. He served in the branch presidency at the MTC, and second counselor in the bishopric. As a young man he served in the Southwest Indian Mission and later he served with Carol at the Heber Valley Girls Camp Mission helping the youth gain a testimony.
Errol went about doing good in such a quiet way as it was a joy for him to serve without being openly recognized. Dad always saw the positive in things, never had a negative word to say about anyone and always had a lesson and smile to share. These attributes helped him excel as a social worker for LDS Family Services. During his 38 years there, he was able to help enrich other’s lives and bring families together forever. He was an integral part of the Indian Placement Program where Native American children lived with local families. Errol found great joy in working with the church adoption program, helping the birth mothers and adoptive couples find comfort and happiness during such a precious time.
Dementia robbed Dad of his memories, but nevertheless he continued to share his humor, wisdom and being an example of enduring to the end. During the last several months he looked forward to his visits with Kelley Clark from Bright Star. She always came with an activity which made him laugh, smile and even giggle out loud! We express our love and appreciation for her.
Errol is survived by his wife, Carol Christiansen Whitlock, and his three children: Rod (Jennifer) Whitlock of Roy, Utah; Debbie (Michelle) Whitlock of Lorena, Texas; Kerri (Troy) Warner of Mapleton, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. We will miss him beyond measure, but remember, honor, and celebrate him.
