Erma Carter Peay

December 28, 1917 — April 13, 2011

Erma Carter Peay, age 93, died April 13, 2011 at her home in Mapleton, Utah. She was born December 28, 1917 in Provo, a daughter of Loren Ezra and Clara Hoier Carter. She married Ralph H. Peay in Provo on October 7, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. They resided in Provo until 1946, at which time they moved to Springville and later to Mapleton. They spent 61 happy years together, camping, fishing and traveling to many places around the world.

Erma attended school in Orem and Pleasant View. She graduated from Lincoln High in 1936. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in various church callings. She was a member of the Para Passu Club of Springville for many years, where she enjoyed the association with the other ladies.

Erma loved gardening and tending to her plants. She loved cooking, canning and taking care of their home. But more than anything, she loved her children and grandchildren. They were her life.

Erma is survived by her children Bonnie (Robert) Hutchings, West Jordan, Ralph John (Susan) Peay, San Antonio, Texas, Marilyn Tipton, Mapleton, along with 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Erma is also survived by her brother, Boyd M. Carter, Provo, and sister, Bertha (Bob) Cooper, American Fork.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her son Samuel Loren, her parents and brothers Golden, Glen, Harold and Clifford Carter.

The family would like to thank Intermountain Health Care Hospice for their care of our mother over the past few weeks and we would like to express our grateful appreciation for the wonderful care provided by grandson, David.

Erma appreciated the love and kindness shown to her by friends and neighbors, and she loved you all.
