Erma Ewell Davies

Erma Squire Ewell Davies, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Feb. 21, 2008 at the age of 97. Erma was born in Monroe, Utah, to Oliver E. and Annetta Dorthea Andreason Squire on April 4, 1910. She moved to Springville and married William Marion Ewell, a widower with six children, in 1935. William and Erma added three more children to their family. He died in 1973. She married John L. Davies Sr. on April 1, 1977. He died in 1994. Between the two families there are over 100 grandchildren.







Erma graduated from Gunnison High in 1929. She graduated from Central Utah Vocational School in 1957 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Springville Medical Center until her retirement in 1977. Erma has a long history of service in the LDS Church. She was an avid genealogist and taught genealogy for many years. She also taught Primary and Relief Society and served on the Stake Sunday School Board. She and John filled a mission to Indiana Indianapolis from Dec 1977 to June 1979. They were subsequently called to work in the Provo Temple.







Erma lived in the same home in Springville for over 70 years. There she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, knitting, rug weaving and ceramics. She continued those hobbies for the benefit of family members until her eye sight failed. Erma also enjoyed her association with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers where she was active until her death.







Erma is survived by daughters Gladys Staheli of Spanish Fork, Darlene Marshall and Annette Nichols of Springville, Marie Hjorth of Covered Bridge Canyon and Marva Nelson of Richfield. She is also survived by a son, Arnold Ewell, of Oceanside CA, and many grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters and six brothers, and children Twilla Newbury, William Ewell, and Eldon Ewell.







Services will be held Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at 11 a.m., in the Spring Creek Second Ward, 350 N. 400. E., Springville, Utah. A viewing will be held Thurs. Feb. 28, from 6 ‑ 8 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah. A viewing will also be held Friday from 9:30 ‑ 10:45 at the church. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
