Elwood Colin Thomas (Tom), 85. Born in Flint, Michigan on October 7th, 1924. Passed away November 13th, 2009.
E.C. Thomas "Papa" was a man of many talents; including making everyone laugh with his mean look, singing in church off tune, and making his children eat their vegetables no matter how much they complained, or tried to hide them. E.C. Thomas served in the United States Army, being the youngest soldier to attain the rank of Sergeant at the age of 15 1/2. He served under General Macarthur at the Battle of the Bulge, and General George Patton at Rhine Crossing. E.C. fought a title fight for the title of Golden Gloves Champion. E.C. was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 12, and a founding member of the Associated General Contractors.
E.C.'s interests included: His relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ; attending Christian Life Church; doing crossword puzzles and tinkering in his shop; collecting golf balls on his daily walk and telling stories about his time in the Military and his life experiences.
E.C. was survived by his loving wife, Marie Thomas, his children: Rex Thomas, Richard Bartlett, Hazel Maltby, Bill Thomas, Noma Jean Mills, Rhonda Rushing
King, and Tom Thomas. He had twenty six grandchildren and forty five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marie Whitney. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville, UT. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, UT.
