William "Bill" LeRoy

May 16, 1948 — April 6, 2025

Springville Utah

I often feel, like Lou Gehrig when he retired from baseball with a terminal disease. He said that he felt like he was “luckiest man in the world”. I feel the same way. I’m so glad that I got to be me.

I have lived for almost 77 years, longer than most anyone in my family. I am so thankful that I was born and raised here in Mapleton and Springville by goodly parents. My father died when I was 4 years old. Mother died when I was a senior in Medical School.

Despite losing my Father at a young age, Heavenly Father left me with 3 men who gave me so many wonderful experiences, but also taught me how to work hard. Two were my uncles, Wendell and Merrill Nielson and Doctor Kenneth Creer. I was so lucky - I had 3 dads.

I graduated from Springville High School, went to BYU for a year and then was called to serve a mission for the LDS church in Northern Argentina. I loved being there and was blessed to know so many special people come into the Church.

After my mission I returned to BYU. I had wanted to go into medicine before my mission and pursued this when I returned. I was accepted at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and did all of my residency there. It was a real blessing to be there at such a great school and being there really solidified our marriage. Two people there were of such great help to me: Dr. Evangeline Papageorge and Dr. H. Kenneth Walker. I will never forget you.

I returned to Springville to practice. I have had such a good experience here. One of the things I enjoyed most was making house calls. It was an honor to serve people in my community and help them through life’s problems. There were so many wonderful people that became my friends during a thirty-three year practice.

In the summer of 1990 I was talked into joining the Army reserves. There were no world conflicts on the horizon and was told I would like it. I received my commission and given the rank of Major. Later that year Sudan Hussein invaded Kuwait and my unit was deployed

Lynette and I have been married now for 53 years and have four children: Jason Andrew (Gretchen LeRoy), Monica LeRoy Chamberlain (Robert Chamberlain), Jonathan David (Leslielyn LeRoy), and Jared Nathan. We have 11 grandchildren, The oldest is married to Marly.

If I would give advice to any, it would be to live a life of service to others, to practice and make that one of the priorities of your life for it will bring you the most happiness.

I wish to testify to the reality that we have a Savior. I have listened to His voice several times in my life as he answered my prayers giving me instructions and guidance to difficult questions. He has shown me in visions situations that I would encounter that more than once have saved my life. I love Him with all my heart.

May God Bless you this day and always.
