1919 ~ 2012
Elizabeth Rowland, 93, passed away October 13, 2012 at her residence in Trinity Mission, Provo, Utah. Beth was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 2, 1919 to Howell Robert and Esther Irene Clark Newman. She was the second of nine children, who were all raised in the family home in Springville by the old fish hatchery. She attended Lincoln Elementary and Springville High School where she excelled in Art and English, especially poetry. Beth's love of beautiful scenes and words continued throughout her life as she remained an avid reader and artist into her last days. In her early years, she worked at various jobs using the skills she learned from her parents, but her lifelong vocation was mother and homemaker.
Beth was exceptionally gifted as a seamstress and made many of the clothes her children wore. She also made dolls, teddy bears, toys and many other items. She crocheted beautiful afghans and made quilts for her children and grandchildren. Beth was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and was active for many years. She made friends wherever she went and especially loved her Trinity Mission family in her final several years residing there.
Beth is preceded in death by her ex-husband Mayhew Orton, her husband of 54 years Ted Rowland, a stepson and two granddaughters. She is survived by her children Glenda Caldwell, Shirley Silvis, Sandra Fraughton, Byron Orton, Diane Orton, Konnie Sheen, Mara Pierce, Terry Rowland and Jerry Rowland, stepchildren Ray Rowland, Jean Henderson, Ted Rowland Jr., 32 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.
