Elaine Crandall Jackson left this life peacefully on Sunday, October 30* at the age of 94 from causes incident to age. She was born August 8, 1917 to Edgar Vern and Sylvia Hansen Crandall in Springville, Utah where she had a happy childhood as the 3rd of 7 children. As in many rural families, the children played an integral part of the family effort to provide for themselves, with the children learning to work hard. This became one of Elaine's defining characteristics throughout her life.
After graduating from Springville High School, she attended Utah State University for 2 years and then took a job at Central Bank in Springville. Later she moved to Salt Lake where she was employed by Remington Arms factory accounting division. In 1944 she married Waldo Jackson in the Salt Lake temple. Always after that, she was devoted to her husband and supported him in all his endeavors. She became a serious sports fan and she and Waldo had many years of enjoyment as BYU basketball and football season ticket holders, often attending away games as well.
Being positive and pleasant seemed to be a natural part of her nature, always choosing to put the favorable slant on a situation. She was a very social person and enjoyed talking to and learning about people around her. She was loved by her neighbors and had many friends. For years she was a member of the home culture club which helped sponsor many activities and fund-raisers for the Springville Art Museum.
She enjoyed her siblings who nearly all lived in the Springville area and especially spent time with her sisters attending concerts and cultural events as well as helping with bread-making demonstrations at numerous Relief Societies and other community groups.
Each year she and Waldo planted and tended a large vegetable garden and often when complemented on a tasty dish she had prepared, she would remind her family that it was from produce grown in their own garden. Every year she would enter her roses in the county fair and always come home with at least one blue ribbon.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and held many callings in the church throughout her life.
Her homemaking skills were legendary. She excelled as a cook (her recipes are still in demand today) and housekeeper. Her home was always a warm and inviting place.
She loved and was devoted to her two sons as well as her husband and spent her life serving them. She was preceded in death by 5 of her 6 siblings as well as 1 granddaughter, Nicole. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Judy) of Provo and Jerry (Jan) of Mapleton, as well as 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
