Edwin Junior Johnson

July 30, 1924 — April 5, 2011

Edwin was born in Springville July 30, 1924 to Carl Edwin and Esther Adamson Johnson. He passed away peacefully on April 5, 2011. He grew up in Springville, Utah, where he graduated from Springville High School in 1942. He attended Brigham Young University until he enlisted in the Army to serve in WW II, serving in the Pacific area and received a purple heart with an oak leaf cluster. Upon returning from the service he joined his father in the family business, Johnson Tire Service. He married Beth Smoot on November 6, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple.

In 1964 Ed and Beth bought Johnson Tire Service from his father. From that time forward they worked side by side, never having a moment where one would be seen without the other. Many people of the community have benefited from his generosity and from his work ethic. He served as a volunteer fireman of Springville City for 35 ½ years, including twice serving as Fire Chief. He enjoyed spending time at the family's summer home at Soldier Creek, fishing and relaxing with family and friends. He was an active member of the LDS church, having served in many capacities, but particularly enjoying service as a valiant and dedicated home teacher. Although his accomplishments were many, including service to his country and his community, he felt his greatest joy and accomplishment in life was his family. Ed and Beth have been members of a monthly dinner group with special friends for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beth Johnson of Springville; Christine Johnson daughter-in-law of Payson; Valerie (Robert) Jackson of Springville; Jennie Gay of Spanish Fork; Shelli (Nels) Jensen of Bothwell; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Helen J. Moon of Provo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Michael E. Johnson (son); Charles Gay (son-in-law); Lois J. Child (sister); and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Springville Stake Center at 245 South 600 East. There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville and Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
