Edward William Holmes

November 19, 1936 — December 17, 2011

Edward William Holmes was born November 19, 1936 in Springville, Utah to Frank Leo and Norma Marie Phillips Holmes. He died on December 17, 2011 in Provo, Utah. Ed graduated from Springville High School in 1955. He excelled in many sports including football, basketball and baseball. He was Senior Class President-a true Red Devil.

Ed met his sweetheart and future wife, Mary Ann Duke, in junior high school. They were married June 14, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with eight children and shared much love for each other and their family.

Ed worked in his father-in-law's jewelry business for several years and later was employed as Credit Manager at Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. until his retirement in 1992. No one worked harder or with more integrity. He enjoyed moonlighting as a skilled clock repairman and traveled throughout the state repairing and delivering clocks of all shapes and size. After retirement, Ed became an avid golfer and joined a group of good friends for many early morning rounds at Hobble Creek.

Ed was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the Savior. He arose at 4:00 a.m. each morning to study the scriptures. He has served in many callings including Bishop, High Councilor, and Stake Financial Clerk. He and his wife served a church service mission at the Missionary Training Center and a short calling with the Provo Utah Mission before his illness. They also worked in the baptistery at the Provo Temple for several years.

Ed's greatest love in life was for his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. No sacrifice was too great in their behalf. He will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife, his children Richard Edward (Janna) Holmes, Jacquelyn Critchlow, Brent Melvin (Toneta) Holmes, Christopher Frank (Marie) Holmes, David Duke (Julie) Holmes, Julie Kay (Dana) Hardin, Michael Lynn Holmes, and Jeffrey William (Ciara) Holmes; 34 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and brothers and sisters Bertie (Derald) Boyce, Delia Mae Macgregor, Lamar (Alice) Holmes, Carol Masters and Glenn Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
