Duaine K McKenzie Passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on October 8th, 2021. His body may have been frail and tired but his spirit was strong and ready for a new adventure.
He was born on May 25th, 1942, to Bernell and Bernice McKenzie in Springville Utah, a town he loved so much he never left.
On October 7th, 1978, he married the love of his life Joie Ann Holt. For 43 years they raised a wild family always welcoming new family members with open arms. He loved his family and would have done anything to help them out. Each time someone was leaving after a visit he was famous for saying " Don't crash and burn" or "see you in the spring". Everyone will forever remember his signature wave.
He loved horses and rode in a rodeo when he was younger and then took care of and owned many throughout his life.
Duaine drove trucks most of his adult life-he had a passion for the open road. His handle was The Village Idiot and it spoke to his playful character. You never saw him without a cup of coffee in one hand and a camel stud in the other.
When he wasn't driving he was tinkering with his toys, he loved to build model airplanes, puzzles, legos, anything that required an instruction booklet that he could hoard in his perfectly organized drawer.
He is survived by his wife Joie, his Daughter Wendy (Aaron) Plake, his daughter Debbie (Philip) Truesdell, a son Clint and a daughter Angie as well as 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 2 sons.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his Home healthcare nurses Heidi and Kori your compassion and care meant the world to us and to Duaine.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a viewing held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville and again on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service.
