Doyle Duane Barney was born March 23, 1929, in Provo, Utah and passed away peacefully on October 24, 2009, in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was the first son born to Edith Deborah Barney. He lived with his grandparents, Alma and Christina Barney. Doyle worked hard while he was young and helped in the care of his four younger brothers Larry, Daniel, Joseph, Jack, and his two sisters Lysle and Carol. He was very close to them and loved them very much. Doyle would want tribute paid to Jesse McCauslin who was a great influence on his life and character.
At a very young age he worked at the Provo Foundry as a truck driver and later worked as a fireman on the steam engines at Ironton. He had a great fascination and love for trains and heavy equipment. Through self instruction and dedication he later became one of the greatest crane operators in the country, operating some of the largest cranes in the world. Because of his natural leadership abilities he was recognized by some of the largest construction companies which respected and needed his ability to lead and instruct workers. He was a self made man and was very accomplished for only completing an 8th grade education.
Doyle met and fell in love with Wanda Robertson who had two young daughters. They were married on June 21, 1950. They had three additional children making four girls and one boy. They were married in the Manti Temple on January 13, 1967 where all five children were sealed to them. He served as Boy Scout Master, Elder's Quorum President, High Councilor, Bishop, Stake Missionary, and Provo Temple Baptistry Director.
As mayor of Castle Dale (1974-1978) he was able to share his skill and vast knowledge of construction and heavy equipment during a time of tremendous growth due the construction of the power plants.
He loved to camp and to drive to many vacation areas throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He could fix and repair anything. He was an expert at rescuing his children or helping them solve problems. He helped anyone and everyone.
Doyle was a loving husband father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Wanda and his five children: Carolyn Hone, Patricia Cosner, Diana (David) Holt, Duane (Laura Ann) Barney, and Sandra (Richard Bino) Jones. He has 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Palmyra Stake Center at 505 E. 900 N. in Spanish Fork, Utah. There will be a viewing held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., in Springville and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
