Donald Paul Davies, 89 was born on March 22, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Paul and Veda Davies. He passed away peacefully on February 13, 2018 in Provo, Utah. Don married the love of his life Twila V Olsen on August 30, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated over 71 years of marriage.
As a youth, Don learned the joy of making things with his hands alongside his father. Together they built competition bows, arrows, and a kayak. He developed lifelong passions for photography, amateur radio, electronics and aviation. Focused and determined, Don earned his pilot’s license at the age of fifteen and was the youngest person on the ski patrol at Alta. He worked at KSL in the early days of television and spent much of his career in the aerospace industry in California, Iowa, and Utah. His instincts for tinkering and problem solving led him to author patents and form several small companies.
Don served diligently in many capacities in both community and church. He was a devoted scout leader and often shared his love of flying with the youth. He was actively involved in the community and local politics. Don worked faithfully in many positions in the LDS Church including serving as a bishop, high councilor, and in a stake presidency. He and Twila enjoyed missions to Munich, Germany and Leeds, England. For the past six years they were consultants in the Family History Center.
Don is survived by his wife Twila V; sister Jean Marie Aird; children Diana Nielsen, Annette (David) Rogers; Steven (Judy) Davies; Susan (Jan) Paulson; and Mark (Natalie) Davies; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lee Davies.
