1959 ~ 2013
How to begin to describe a huge heart in a small space, with words he sang to us many times...I'd gladly take 10 seconds in the saddle, for a lifetime of watching from the stands. And he did, he gave everything in his life - 110.
Domonic Jack Canto was born to John A Canto and Maurine Pulsipher Canto on June 24, 1959, in St. George UT. He was raised and attended schools in the Springville/Mapleton area, graduating from Springville High with the class of 1978. He was employed with Springville City for the last 25 years, previous employment with SMP trucking as a mechanic and also work for the Labor Union. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He was able to build the log home which he shared and created memories with his family.
He married his high school sweetheart, Camille Beth Stewart on June 16, 1978. They had three beautiful children together. He loved, adored and dedicated his life to his children. There were many family hunting, camping and fishing trips, 4-wheeling and the motorcycle outings which were a must. He followed his family members as each participated in their sport of choice, and of course, he introduced them to his love of horses. This was a love he learned from his own father. Each child learned to ride on a horse named Joe, who also became an adored life-long member of the family.
Domonic was blessed with six amazing grandchildren. They are what put the sparkle in his eyes - nothing made him brag and laugh more than taking and spending time with them.
Domonic had many talents and he used them to take many friends and relatives on hunting/guided outings. They always came home with their trophy deer or elk. When the grandchildren showed an interest in motorcycles, 4 motorcycles were bought, along with all the gear as their expertise developed. But, his love of horses and team roping was always at the top of his list. Watching and teaching the grandchildren to ride made it all worthwhile. If you asked him, he always had the best all around horses. He loved to rope and was very successful at it - winning many, many times.
He is survived by his wife: Camille. Three children: Anthony (Inalei) Canto, Amberli (Chad) Metcalf and Jake Canto. Six grandchildren: Kobie, Cash and Hixon Canto; Jackson, Bowen and Weston Metcalf. His mother, Maurine Canto. Four sisters and one brother: Teresa (Rick) Roberts, Debbie (Roy) Degn, Susan (Alan) Roberts, Annette Dowley, and Tony (Ciji) Canto; and, many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John A Canto, a sister, Melodee Canto Schardine (Rex), brother-in-law, Marty Dowley and friend and uncle Ernie Parkin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints Ward, 878 West Center, Springville UT under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary. Friends and family may offer condolences from 9:30 - 10:40 am, prior to services.
Domonic journeyed on, leaving us Saturday, November 2, 2013, blazing the trail before us and treasuring that his spirit lives on. With a heart as big as he was, there will never be a man that loved his family more...My love, until we meet again.
