Dixie Ann Thompson Phillips

Dixie Ann Thompson Phillips passed away April 2, 2011 in Provo, Utah at the age of 92 of causes incident to age. She was born July 30, 1918 in Circleville, Piute County, Utah to Alton Rex and Rhoda Ann (Gillies) Thompson, the 8th of 9 children. She married Thomas A. Phillips in 1956. Together they made a home in Twin Falls, Idaho where she resided for 47 years. She raised two sons, a couple of dogs and numerous cats. Dixie was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many church callings.



She was educated in Circleville at Piute High School and attended college in Cedar City, Utah at what was then the Branch Agricultural College. Dixie took nurses training at the Salt Lake County hospital. She later received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Utah, and pursued some graduate education at Idaho State University.



Professionally she worked as a labor and delivery nurse and a medical-surgical nurse. Later she would join the nursing faculty at the College of Southern Idaho overseeing clinical training. In retirement she spent many hours nursing the sick and elderly as well as counseling unwed mothers participating in LDS Family Services programs.



Dixie is survived by her sons Quintin (Sue) of Boise, Idaho and Mark (Sherrie) of Spanish Fork, Utah. Dixie doted on her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sister, Iva Lou Stephens.



Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Canyon Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3477 E Riverbottoms Road, Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends and family may call at a viewing and visitation one hour prior to the services at the same location. Interment will follow at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Audubon Society, or LDS Humanitarian Relief Fund.
