Devon passed away May 17, 2018 in Springville, Utah surrounded by her family. She was born June 18, 1931 in Lockerby, Utah to Gilbert Peter and Opal Mourer Hansen. She was the eldest child of seven. She was well known for her beautiful flower gardens, her gourmet meals, and especially her famous pies. “They were the best darn pies in San Juan County!!”. So yes, she was the ultimate Master homemaker.
Devon’s Dad was a nomadic person. Because of this she lived in Idaho, Colorado, California, Oregon and several places in Utah. The family settled in Monticello, Utah. She met John Egbert Codner when she was a Junior in high school. They were married on June 24, 1948 in Aztec NM. Their marriage was solemnized August 27, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had four children at that time who were sealed to them and later were blessed with five more children.
Our mom loved to read, write poetry, cook, sew, quilt, lots of types of needle work and always had a large garden. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel particularly the Book of Mormon. Being a veteran’s wife, she loved our Country. She loved to teach, especially the youth and made a strong impact on those she taught as well as her posterity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son John Egbert Jr., sisters Mona, Berta and brothers Gerald, RA, and Dean, and granddaughter Misty Moore. She is survived by her children Kathryn (Kenneth) Moore, Bill (Joyce), Patricia (Craig) Child, Jim (Amber), Nancy (Robert) Head, Van (Sharon), Deby (Clay) Johnston, Colleen (Robert) Jaeger. She is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
