Dean L. Tew

June 7, 1930 — March 23, 2012

Dean L. Tew passed away March 23, 2012, from a brain tumor, at home with his wife and family. He was born June 7, 1930 in Mapleton, UT to William T. and Jennie M. Houtz Tew.

He married his sweetheart Myrna Lee Weight on Sep. 12, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have 6 children: Grant D. (Diane) Tew, Lake Shore; Kevin L. (Debbie) Tew, Santaquin; Jennalee (Bruce) Long, Spanish Fork; Cynthia (Mike) Keetch, Salem; Steven T. (Joanne) Tew, Genola and Karen (Travis) Jones, Nephi. They have 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Dean was a High Priest in the LDS Church. He served as a Bishop, Branch President, High Councilman, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and in many other positions. He served 4 years as a Branch President in the MTC in Provo, UT. He served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for 7 years. As a young man he served over 6 years in the Utah National Guard during the Korean Conflict, after which he served an LDS Mission to New Zealand 50 years after his father had served there. He and his wife served an 18 month mission in New Zealand on the South Island in 2000. He loved the New Zealand people and culture and the beautiful country.

He loved hunting and fishing, family campouts and time at the Weight Ranch in Wanrhodes. A family tradition was camping at Fish Lake each fall over Labor Day Weekend that now spans 5 generations. He was a very family oriented man.

He spent most of his career life working for his brother Roy in the home construction business. They built many homes in Utah, Salt Lake and other counties. He was especially talented in finish work. He was a perfectionist and his work was neat and beautiful.

Besides his wife and children he leaves behind two brothers: Roy E. (Verna Vee) Tew, Orem and Ronald Kay (Ferris) Tew, Springville and a sister-in-law, Yolande Tew of Provo.

He will be sorely missed.
