1927~2015
David Eames Gledhill passed away peacefully at his home in Springville on February 13, 2015. He was born May 24, 1927 in Richfield, Utah to Dr. Thomas Ray Gledhill and Rebecca May Eames. He grew up in Richfield, the youngest of seven children. David graduated early from Richfield High School to join the Navy during WWII. His time in the Navy was spent on the USS Black, where he traveled throughout the Pacific and Orient. Following the war, David attended BYU until his call to serve an LDS mission in Great Britain. In 1952, as David drove tour buses for the Utah Parks Company, he met Joy Christiansen, a hostess at the Bryce Canyon Lodge.
David and Joy married on April 9, 1953, in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they raised 2 sons and 1 daughter and have been blessed with 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
After receiving his B.A. in education at BYU, David began his teaching career at Springville Junior High. He later received his M.A. from Colorado State University. He taught in various positions in Nebo School District for over 30 years.
David strived to lead a Christ centered life. Service was an important aspect of this conviction. He served as bishop of the Springville First Ward and as a counselor in the Kolob Stake presidency. David was able to bless the lives of countless individuals as a sealer in the Provo Temple and as the patriarch of the Hobble Creek Stake. Together David and Joy served three missions for the LDS church. His example of Christ-like service will be missed.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Joy, and his children, Bret (Teresa), Basin City, WA, Rebecca (Tim, deceased) Johnston, Springville, and Kent (Tanna), Provo.
