Darryl LaVerne Potter of Sandy, Utah, left this life on August 7, 2008, in Springville, Utah. We will all miss him but our fond memories of him will always remain. Darryl was born March 25, 1941, in Telluride, Colorado, to James LaVerne Potter and Grace Marie Collins.
He attended Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah, graduating in 1959. He was the drum major of the marching band and was also a star mile-runner on the track team. He was a great lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, hunting and fishing in Utah and on Grand Mesa, Colorado.
In 1958 he pedaled a Sears model bicycle from Sandy, Utah to Denver, Colorado and back, going by way of 13,000-foot Berthold Pass and Monarch Pass. In the following two years he made repeat bicycle expeditions from Sandy to Moab, Utah; and to Montrose, Colorado.
He was tremendously proud of his (Colorado) Collins family heritage and of the Collins home ranch on Dallas Divide, Colorado, where he spent glorious childhood summers, including summiting North Pole, Hayden and Meyers Peak (the "third peak"). Happily, he visited the ranch with family members two weeks prior to his passing.
He was a truck haulage driver at Kennecott Copper in Bingham Canyon for many years.
Darryl married Sandra White with whom he had a son Darryn Scott Potter in 1965. Children of Darryn (Shelly), and grandchildren of Darryl, are Craig (Lacy) Sanchez; Ashlee, Preston, Hannah Grayce and Elijah Potter, all of Spanish Fork, Utah. Also survived by a sister, Jeanie Reynolds; and brothers Larry V. Potter and Karl (Vicki) Potter, all of Salt Lake City. Survived, too, by his Uncle Dee Collins, 91, of Montrose, Colorado. Loved by numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and a zillion Colorado cousins.
Darryl was a life-long member of Murray Baptist Church, Murray, Utah. He was a Christian man, who believed always in the power of God. He was remarkably strong of will and did not complain of pain or the struggles in his life.
Graveside services officiated by the Reverend Tree Cooper, Lone Tree Cemetery, Telluride, Colorado. Arrangements by Wheeler Mortuary, Springville, Utah; and Crippin Funeral Home, Montrose, Colorado. We love you always. God bless you, and rest in peace. Meet you on the "third peak."
