Darlene Huff Day passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, February 7, 2025. She was born to Joseph Lynn and Mercy Eleanor Huff on February 22, 1938, in Provo, Utah. She was the oldest of seven daughters. She married her soul mate and eternal sweetheart, Clark Harris Day, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on August 30, 1956. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2013. They are the parents of five children.
Darlene attended school in Provo and Springville. She graduated from Springville High School where she enjoyed singing in the choir as well as in smaller groups with her sister and friends. She also loved participating in the high school theater productions and the Spanish club.
Darlene was an accomplished musician. Her home was always filled with music. She passed on her love of music to her family and countless others, in particular hundreds of piano students over many decades including her own grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her musical talent blessed the lives of many as she volunteered to play for music time at Sage Creek Elementary, accompanied countless performers and was a member of multiple singing groups. She was always willing to share her amazing talent with others and knew that music can make a difference in so many ways.
She was a devoted and loving wife to Clark. They were partners, friends, companions, sweethearts and loved being together. They had so much fun traveling together, most often with Ralph and Kathy. They had a large circle of close friends that were like family. They served a mission together in Tonga where they taught school and made a difference in the lives of so many students and their families. They grew to love the Tongan people with all their hearts and will always count that as one of the most cherished times in their lives. Darlene lovingly and tenderly cared for Clark through his battle with Parkinsons and she missed him so much. We know they are so happy to be reunited.
She was a caring and fun daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She talked about all the Huff family reunions and the fun they had. She loved and appreciated all that her grandparents did for her. Because of them, she was able to pursue her passion for piano. She loved to hear her family sing, and they spent many hours around the piano singing while she played. We will miss those times with her. She was the best grandma ever to her grandkids, who she adored and who adored her. While she was known by many names – including Darlene, Mom, Dar, Mams and the Granulator, her hands down favorite was Granny.
She was the favorite chaperone mom on many a choir tour, champion of Road Shows, fierce softball player, baker of mountains of bread and cookies, sneaker of chocolate chips, bacon bandit, clothes creator, mouse slayer, roller coaster rider, loving caregiver, and amazing Bishop’s wife and Relief Society President who loved and served the people in the ward selflessly. No one will ever know of the many hours she quietly and anonymously served over the years. Everyone was welcome in her home and immediately became part of her family.
She had a great love for our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a strong and abiding testimony of the restored gospel and lived her life by its precepts. She faced adversity and trials with faith, grace and strength and always tried to treat others as she knew the Savior would. She served with dedication in many callings including Primary, Young Women and Relief Society Presidents, as well as being involved in Girls Camp every year for 35 years. Oh, how she loved Girls Camp. Most recently she served as the Organist for Sacrament Meeting and the pianist for Primary. She loved watching and listening to the children sing.
Darlene is survived by her children, Valynn (David) Gerhauser, Bradley (Carol) Day, Michael (Helen) Day, David (Annette) Day, Matthew Day and adopted daughter Malia (Pulia) Tuha, 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, Sisters Carolyn (Hy) Judd, Kathy (Paul) Knight, Colene (Floyd) Miner, Ellen (Don) McOmie, Brother-in-law Ralph Luke (Kathy) Day, and many nieces, nephews and cousins that love her. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Luke and Marjorie Day, her husband, her sisters and brothers in law Lynette and Ray Sumner, Marilyn and Roy Devenish, Marvin Christiansen, Hy Judd and John Robertson, and grandparents who she dearly loved and of whom she shared fond memories. We can picture a joyful reunion with many loved ones waiting to receive her like teammates at home plate celebrating her walk-off home run.
The family wishes to express thanks for the kind and loving care Darlene received throughout this last year from the healthcare professionals at Canyon View Medical Centers, Spanish Fork Hospital and Utah Valley Hospital. You are truly angels on earth.
