Dale J. Peterson, 91, of Springville, Utah, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Provo, Utah, on March 20, 1933, to Charles Abner Peterson and Maryann Petrea Olsen Peterson. He married Millie Rose Tamietti in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 14, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2005.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Savior and valiantly served in many callings in the Church throughout his life. He and Millie taught their children to love and call upon the Lord at all times.
He enjoyed camping, boating, ATV rides, pine nut hunting, gathering firewood, hunting, road trips, golfing with Millie, being with friends and practical joking. He had 2 nicknames. His mother and siblings called him "Dick" as his mother wanted to name him at birth. The other was "Poppy" that his youngest granddaughter called him when she was learning to talk.
His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. He loved to learn of and talk about his ancestors and attended as many family reunions as he was able throughout the years. After working many years in the collision repair industry, he built and opened Dale Peterson Body Shop in 1978. He was an excellent auto body repairman for many years, helping out his friends, neighbors and customers in their times of worry with their vehicles. He taught his children the value of hard work, honesty and integrity. Although his aging body would not allow him to continue working, he still loved to be at work. He would sit at the shop every afternoon to watch his son, daughter-in-law and their children carry on the business. He loved being there with his family and visiting with long time customers, friends and acquaintances.
Dale was an imperfect, tough, stubborn, impatient, driven, rough around the edges man, but he had a tender heart that could be found for his family and God. He loved his friends and neighbors. He loved reminiscing about his childhood days, schoolmates and pranks played.
He is survived by his children: Janet (Greg) Johnson, Dalene Peterson and Tad (Amy) Peterson, grandchildren, Dustin (Kristel) Peterson, Maranda (Brandon) Stradling, Deven (Kellie) Johnson, Katie (Matt) Clark, Derek (Sadie) Peterson, Blake (Megan) Johnson, Travis (McKayla) Peterson, Shelbie Peterson, Braden (Ashley) Peterson and Carmen (Corban) Billings, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Millie, son, Gary (Elizabeth, surviving spouse) Peterson, his parents and 14 siblings.
