Our dearest Cristy Preston Bird, 48, of Springville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 27th after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Cristy was born on September 19, 1974, in Provo, Utah to John and JoNan Preston. She married Jonathan Glenn Bird on July 8th 1994, in Mapleton, Utah.
Cristy grew up in Mapleton, Utah when it was still a small town, and she had many fond memories of living there with her parents and seven siblings. She graduated from Springville High School in 1992 and was a lifelong Red Devil. After High School, Cristy supported Jon while he finished his schooling. In 2003, Cristy went back to school and received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Westside Elementary and taught her three children while there. Cristy also taught at Art City Elementary, Springville Jr. High, and most recently Spring Canyon Middle School. She loved teaching and helping kids learn. During her career she was awarded the Crystal Apple Award twice and Teacher of the Year in 2020. She was an amazing educator and connected with students in a way few can. Cristy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved serving in the Primary and Young Women organizations.
