Clyde Strong Averett age 86 of Springville, passed away at home, on May 14, 2013. Clyde was born June 1, 1926 to Thomas and Bessie Averett of Springville. He married Lela Rutledge on September 30, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on September 28, 1963. Clyde attended school in Springville. He joined the navy at age 17, during World War II. He served two years aboard the US LSM 158. In his later years he enjoyed attending the annual reunion and renewing friendships from his time aboard the ship. He loved his employment at Geneva Rock and made many life-long friends. Clyde enjoyed trapping, hunting, camping, fishing, coaching his sons and other youth in baseball. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife Lela. He was a loving caregiver to his wife Lela in her later years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Clyde is survived by his four children, Eileen (Jack) Anderson, Ephraim, Kenneth (Roz) Averett, Springville, Kelly Averett, Salem, and Janine Hatfield, Santaquin. 16 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister Beth, and best friend and brother LaMar. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother Harold, and sister Leona, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday May 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spring Creek 9th Ward Chapel located at 355 E Center Street, Springville. Friends and family may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Sunday May 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. or Monday at the Church prior to the service 9:45-10:45. Burial will be in the Springville Historic City Cemetery with Military Rites.
