Clark Harris Day

d. December 5, 2013

1935~2013

Clark Harris "Gramps" Day passed away at home with family around him on December 5, 2013, following an extended battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on April 21, 1935 in Park City, UT to Luke and Marjorie Smith Day. He married his eternal sweetheart, Darlene Huff in the Salt Lake Temple on August 30, 1956. They are the parents of 5 children.

Clark was raised in Springville where he graduated from Springville High School. He attended Brigham Young University graduating with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry. He taught Math at Midvale Jr. High for several years then worked at Trojan Powder for 20 years - beginning as a chemist and ending his employment as plant superintendant. The final years of his career were spent teaching at Springville Jr High.

He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy was being with family. He enjoyed being in the outdoors. Staying at the old family cabin and fishing at Strawberry with his family was a favorite activity as was hunting with his boys. One year he shot the biggest buck in Utah and never tired of showing the photos. He loved scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He served as a leader in scouting for many years and loved the qualities and values that scouting instills in young men. He was proud as his sons and grandsons earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many callings including Bishop and High Counselor. He served an LDS mission with his wife in Tonga where he grew to love the Polynesian peoples and their culture.

He was a member of the Springville Kiwanis Club, including serving as president, and enjoyed the service that was rendered by the club. He was a man who was happy serving others quietly and without recognition.

Clark is survived by his wife Darlene, brother Ralph Luke (Kathy) Day, children: Valynn (David) Gerhauser, Bradley (Carol) Day, Michael (Helen) Day, David (Annette) Day, Matthew (Margie) Day, and adopted daughter Malia Read, 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren - all of whom are very grateful for a heritage of integrity and the example of hard work that he provided.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and healthcare professionals at Encompass Hospice for their tender loving care. Clark and Darlene grew to love and appreciate you all very much.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hobble Creek West Stake Center, 555 S. 600 E.(Averett Avenue), Springville. Viewing will be held Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville and 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church.
