Claris Cameron Matheson

March 17, 1915 — June 19, 2009

"Sweet Mother"

Claris Cameron Matheson, 94, died June 19, 2009. Born in Panguitch, Utah, March 17, 1915, to James Parley and Audria Cornelia Pehrson Cameron, the last surviving member of her birth family.

Married March 7, 1938, in the Manti Temple to James Connell Matheson. Survivors include: her loving companion and children Audria Buchanan (Lovell) Lehi, UT, James C. (Katherine) Denton, TX, Margaret Gardner (Norman) Orem, UT, and Kenneth Lee (Julie) Lake Charles, LA. Preceded in death: by son, William J. Matheson, twin grandsons, one great-grandson, and her siblings: Sherman, Audria, Doris (twin), Effie, Robert and Rodney Cameron (twins). Also survived by 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

She had the ability to extend a balance of love with a minimum of judgment. Shy by nature, she was dedicated in fulfilling Church callings. Claris and Jim were instrumental in providing leadership and organizational support in branches and wards throughout the United States. They demonstrated their love of the gospel by serving missionaries and members in need. She encouraged family to seek testimonies of Jesus Christ and of the Prophets of the Latter Days.

She provided opportunities for her children to develop talents and acquire education and vocational skills. She loved studying the scriptures and creating beautiful handwork. She and her husband were especially generous with others in sharing their temporal resources.

The family feels much love and appreciation for the caregivers and staff of the Orem Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility for their tender care of her many needs. She will be missed, but we are thankful that she is relieved of the recent years of pain.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Springville Stake Center at 245 S. 600 E. in Springville. There will be a viewing held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville City Cemetery.
