A choice spirit of our Heavenly Father, the beloved wife of Lee, and a spiritual giant in our life, was reunited with her eldest daughter, LeAnn, on April 3, 2011.
Catherine Ann Mendenhall Clement was born at home in Mapleton, Utah on August 19, 1922 to Richard Lovell and Hannah Bird Mendenhall. She was the seventh child of eight children, six of whom have preceded her in death (brothers Wendell, Art, Earl and sisters Helen, Louise, Erma). She attended schools in Mapleton and Springville where she was crowned the Junior Art Queen in 1936. She married her high school sweetheart, George Leland Clement, on July 3, 1940, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have set the standard of tender love and caring for one another while celebrating over 70 years of marriage.
Service to others was her hallmark. For over 25 years she was a Ward or Stake Primary President, and also served on the LDS Primary General Board. It pleased her to reflect that she had personally signed each of her five children's Primary graduation certificates.
Her service to youth was extended, as she became well known as a spiritual and motivational speaker. For the past half century, she has enjoyed the kind tributes that have come from those who have told her that she touched the direction of their lives. Catherine humbly attributed her success to the many lovely women with whom she served.
It was apparent to all that she not only believed, but her life reflected an inner knowledge and testimony that enlightened all who were ever in her presence. She cultivated character, found ways to lift lives, and heighten happiness.
Catherine along with her husband Lee, were active members of the "Over the Hill" chapter of the Good Sam Club and they were always involved with service projects that enriched numerous lives. She had a quick wit and a sense of humor, which she put to good use in their many service activities.
She will be missed by her husband Lee, her children David (Mary Beth) Clement, Kathleen (Douglas) Wilson, Rob (LaNea) Clement, Lisa (Rusty) Shaw, and Dennis (LeAnn, deceased) Neuenschwander, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, sister Hannah Jean Fry, sister-in-law Mid Mendenhall, nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
Friends and family are welcome to visit from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 8, 2011, and from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Washington Terrace 2nd Ward, 4302 S. 300 W., Riverdale, Utah 84405. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 9, 2011. Her final resting place will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. A dedicatory prayer will be offered at 3:00 pm.
Catherine has inspired us to do good, strive for success, and keep faith alive.
