On January 21, 2012, Carol Deon McIntosh Hitchcock was surrounded by her family when her spirit peacefully departed her mortal body; this concluded Deon's earthly journey which began in Tooele, Utah, on February 15, 1930. She was the first of three children born to Samuel and Carol McIntosh. Her parents and brother, Verl, preceded her in death.
Other mileposts which marked Deon's journey were graduation from Chico High School, graduating with a Physical Education degree from BYU, and choosing Springville as the place to nest and raise her family. She designed and decorated her dream home in Springville, specifically to accommodate large family gatherings. She made beautiful music with the Springville Musettes and created beautiful floral arrangements at the Springville Floral. Deon went to ball games, weddings, funerals and church in Springville. Deon loved her relationships with the people, culture and activities of the Art City. She spent many enjoyable evenings studying, laughing and playing games with friends. Springville was the physical center of Deon's life. Her family was the spiritual and emotional core of her life.
The pinnacle of her life was falling in love with and being married for eternity to Ralph, in the Manti Temple on March 14, 1952. Deon is survived by her True Love, Ralph, and their six children: Ronald (Sandie) Hitchcock, Denise (Jeff) Alexander, Andrea Hitchcock, Craig (Merry) Hitchcock, Cynthia (Jeff) Carter, Rachelle (Mike) Miner, and Deon's sister, Janet (Herb) Ratcliffe. Deon's growing posterity includes 30 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren with at least four more on the way.
Deon was a daughter who honored her parents, a wife who was worshipped by her husband, an exemplary mother to her children and a lasting role model for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everything Deon said and did was motivated by her love of family and her desire to be the matriarch of an eternal, loving family. The impressions she made, the selfless service she provided, the pure love she exuded, and the lessons she taught will always be remembered. Her passing will not leave a void; rather her departure leaves an eternal imprint on all those whose lives she touched. Her life will always be memorialized by the family she leaves on earth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Spring Creek 12th Ward Chapel, 235 East 550 North.
