1950~2014
Carol A. Morgan passed away of an aggressive and sudden onset of brain cancer on Friday, May 16th, 2014 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Carol was born September 30, 1950 to Annie Mae Boutchyard-Johnson and Carl W. Johnson in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia where her mother and siblings joined the LDS church when she was eight years old. When she turned eighteen, she left Virginia to study ballet at BYU.
The following summer, Carol met the love of her life, Clyde S. Morgan, and on May 18th, 1973, they were married for time and all eternity in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. They eventually settled in Mapleton with their three beautiful children.
Carol was an avid ballet and jazz dancer and went on to form her own dance company. She and her partner wrote the beautiful ballet, "Crescent Moon," which was a smashing success. She continued to teach ballet for almost twenty years while also assuming vital roles as a producer and choreographer for the Art City Community Theater. In her tenure, she produced, directed, and choreographed ten major musicals, as well as, countless ballet productions. Carol was a loyal employee in Utah Valley University's Languages department for the past 20 years. She loved working and managing the students in the labs. During her career she was actively involved in the transition from community college to a university.
Carol was known for her loving nature and accepting heart. Carol and Clyde hosted countless dancers from more than twenty countries around the world for Springville's annual Folk Festival. Her quick wit and sense of humor always made her an absolute joy to be around. She never lost her inner youth and was known for her love of science fiction. Carol always had a new book and movie to recommend and attended countless midnight movies with her children and friends. She was a fun loving and honest person who was hard as nails, and a fearless protector of her children. Carol is survived by her three children: Collin Morgan (Wendy), Cameron Morgan (Bridget), Candice Thorpe (Ryan), seven grandchildren, her brother Carl (Barbara) and her sisters Joyce (Jimmy), Janet (Henry), and countless friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, her parents, and brother, Phillip.
A viewing will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mapleton Wheeler Mortuary (82 W 400 N, Mapleton) and on Saturday morning from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the White Church in Mapleton, (31 E Maple St, Mapleton) prior to services beginning at 10:00 am.
