Carol Ann McPheeters age 75, completed "earth life school" on April 15, 2014. She was the oldest child of Leonard Harry McPheeters, Sr. and Lida Margaret Waugman McPheeters. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 8, 1939.
She attended schools in Salt Lake as a child, completing her junior year at East High School in 1956. Her family moved to California and she graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Brigham Young University. After several years of teaching in the public schools she continued her education earning a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology, all the while working full-time and single-handedly raising her four children. Her children remember her as a strong advocate for gaining education, encouraging them to achieve excellence academically and develop high work ethics. Carol was a model of balancing family responsibilities, work and fun! Her love of learning and interest in people motivated her at age 50 to return to the university again and pursue a Masters' Degree in Organizational Behavior at the Marriott School of Business Management, Brigham Young University. This adventure to cross train into business was vitalizing and rewarding to her and expanded the contribution she made in the school system and her colleague teachers. Carol was a mentor to hundreds of graduate students studying Special Education and through her career she became an expert on learning theory and organizational behavior.
Carol found fulfillment in her own paradigm of strength through travel to foreign lands, she believed that travel to foreign lands was as good as or better than a college class. Carol earned the title of Golden Gleaner as a young women, she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many roles in the Church and sharing her testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel to her children by being a role model example of her beliefs in Christ. She was a guide on Temple Square, an avid collector of family history and she used her exquisite writing skills and creative arts talents to vividly portray events in the lives of her family through music, pictures and songs.
Most recently she was the Chapter Regent for the Wasatch Range Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), her Patriot was Private Andrew McPheeters of Pennsylvania. Carol was recognized by the DAR as a distinguished member of the Heritage Club for her significant contribution and leadership. Her wish was to leave a historical legacy to her children and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her four children Linda Carol (Lewis) Hofmann, Laurie Ann (Kyle) Smith, Ron (Dominique) Osick, and Susie L. (Steve) Clayson. She is remembered and beloved by her 14 grandchildren as loving and creative, "Grammie Carol." These treasured grandchildren have been the pride and joy of her later years.
The viewing 10:00 am, and funeral 11:00am will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Mapleton Stake House located at 970 N. 400 E. Mapleton, UT. Graveside service will be a Scottish bag piper with a dedication prayer of the grave at Wasatch Lawn (Olympus Hill) 3401 S. Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, UT. The plot chosen is near Carol's favored grandmother, Sarah Ann Moss McPheeters.
