Carol Newman Bartholomew passed away peacefully on June 22, 2011. She was born on July 10, 1928 in Bingham Canyon, Utah. She was the oldest of 4 children born to Thomas William and Desna Gwendolyn Madsen Newman. She married her sweetheart John Grant Bartholomew on February 11, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2006.
They eventually made their home in Springville, Utah where they raised five daughters and one son.
Carol was active in the LDS church and served faithfully her whole life in many different callings including: Relief Society President (3 times), Primary President, Organist, Teacher, and Stake Scouting Director. She served two full-time missions with her husband, one in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple Mission and one in the Nauvoo, Illinois Mission.
Carol was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed making quilts, clothes, pillows, rugs, dollhouses, and dolls for three generations of posterity. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and providing them with bottomless candy dishes, cookies, Coca-cola, Root-beer floats, and hours of game playing. She spent many summers fishing, boating and camping with John and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed regular "club" gatherings with her friends.
She is survived by five daughters: Tinka (Ralph) Brinton, Cathy (Larry) Gadd, Jean Davis, Kim (Damon) Bahr, Linda (Brad) Quarnberg; one son: Grant (Paula) Bartholomew; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren (with three on the way); two brothers: Maury (Bonnie) Newman, Elmer (MaryAnn) Newman; and one sister: Moonyeen (Clyde) Hettrick. She was preceded in death by: her husband, parents and a son-in-law Charles (Jean) Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11 AM in the Glenmoor 4th Ward LDS Chapel, located at 4881 W. Cindy Lane, South Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be held Sunday, June 26 from 6 to 8 pm at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville; and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
