Carl Albert Walter

October 12, 1928 — September 29, 2007

Carl's earthly body succumbed to cancer on Sept. 29, 2007. Carl was the second of 3 sons, and 8 daughters born to his immigrant father Lawrence Louis Walter, who became a U.S. citizen; and his first generation mother, Mary Helen Ellick. He was raised on two different small Pennsylvania farms, where he tended crops and cows with his brothers and sisters.

He had always wanted to fly airplanes, but was unable to do so during his military service (1946 1949) U.S. Army Air Corps. He used his G.I. Bill to obtain flying lessons and worked as an instructor for the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956 in Ft. Rucker, Ala., when he was then hired by Capitol Airlines as a copilot to fly commercial aircraft. His father had passed away without seeing Carl achieve this. He retired from United Airlines as a DC 10 pilot in 1989. Flying was his great love; the later years of which were shared with his wife, Judy, in flying small aircraft.

He and his first wife Shirley Stone were married Mar. 8, 1955, and both converted to the LDS faith in 1973. They and their family were sealed eternally. They had 3 children Carla, Nadine and Lawrence. After their divorce in 1980 he was sealed to Judith Jecker and assisted with raising her three children Kira, Shelby and Jameson. All of both families survive him. He has been an active member of the LDS church, a Branch Pres. in Cumberland Gap, TN, and enjoyed Temple attendance. He and Judy served a mission in the Montana Billings Mission, Fort Peck Indian Res. from 1992 1993, and they later worked in the Provo Temple Baptistry for 3 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alberta Carrodus and his brother, Joseph Walter.

He is survived by his sisters Frances Piltz, Virginia Pisano, Mary Sokac, Rose, Ickely Patsy Speer, Elizabeth Stelzig, and brother Stanley.
