February 11, 1978- June 19, 2013
Brian Bradley Sargent, 35, passed peacefully from this life on June 19, 2013. He was welcomed to his Heavenly home by Grandparents who love him, after a courageous battle with encephalitis. His passing leaves us with broken hearts, but profound gratitude for a loving Savior who gives us all the opportunity to live again. We look forward with anticipation to the time when we will be with Brian again.
Brian was born to Brad and Mary Louise Sargent on February 11, 1978, in Provo, Utah. He was raised in a loving family in Orem. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1996. Later he attended Utah Valley University, where he earned top honors for his skills in the Diesel Mechanics program. He had the privilege of using his mechanics skills for the past 20 years as he worked with his father and brother at Autotek in Orem. The three of them had a reputation for being honest and fair. They also knew how to have a good time- they fixed cars, invented all kinds of things, ate well, played jokes, and most importantly laughed with and loved each other.
Brian's favorite and most meaningful accomplishment, however, was his beautiful family. He married his best friend and sweetheart, Amelia Ames, on February 3, 2001 in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. She was the light of his life and he was completely in love with her. The two of them faced life's joys and trials together. They worked side by side to create a wonderful life. They loved being together, especially when they travelled the world. He took her to places she dreamed of seeing. Their greatest joys were their three children; Bradley Allen (9), Mason Jay (7), and Erika Ilez (3). Brian's family meant everything to him. He was devoted to them and spent his time with them and for them. As a result, they all have happy memories of many family vacations, time at the cabin, and a beautiful home he built for them. Their greatest trial was Brian's health and Amelia lovingly cared for him throughout his struggle. She was such a blessing to him.
Brian was a true servant of the Lord. He served an honorable mission in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1997-1999. He loved his mission. Although he faced many challenges during his service, he came away from that time with deep convictions, true friends, and an ability to empathize with others. Brian used these gifts well for the remainder of his life. He served faithfully in his callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Recently, he served in the Elders' Quorum and, at the time of his passing, was serving in the Young Men's organization in the Teachers' Quorum. Even though he was in excruciating pain, his thoughts were with his boys and he was working to plan fun, summer outings for them. This was just like Brian. Whenever he became aware of someone's suffering or needs, regardless of how he felt, he was the first to show up and help. He willingly gave of his time, talents, and resources. He was generous and hardworking. Anyone who knew him, knew they could count on him.
Not only was Brian a devoted husband, father, son, brother, neighbor, and a skilled mechanic, he was also a talented builder. He built his own home, many pieces of furniture, helped in the construction of other's homes, and built his beloved wife a sauna to celebrate her Finnish ancestry. He loved doing things that made others happy. He also loved the outdoors. Many friends and family members spent time camping, four wheeling, shooting, water-skiing, and golfing with Brian. Brian's brothers-in law had the privilege of sharing his last golf game with him, a game that he won. Although he is well prepared to stand before his Savior and account for his life, we will miss him dearly!
He is survived by his sweet wife, Amelia and his three children; Bradley, Mason, and Erika; his parents, Brad and Mary Louise; his brother Jason (Emily); his sisters, Angela (David) Bunker, Melinda (James) Veylupek, and Megan (Brad) Stewart; his 6 nieces and 9 nephews; his grandparents, Jay and Lee Sargent, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as Amelia's loving family; her parents, Allen and Ulla Ames; her siblings, Rodney, Katriina, Aaron, Anton, Sarah, Spencer, Benjamin, their spouses, and their children.
We will honor this kindhearted man at a viewing on Wednesday, June 26, in the LDS chapel in Payson at 1138 E. 100 S. from 6-8pm. The following day his services will be in the same building at 11am. A short viewing will precede the services, beginning at 10 am. Interment will follow in the Payson City Cemetery.
