1927~2014
Boyd Goodrich, 87, from Springville, Utah loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, dedicated teacher, exemplary education administrator and friend to all died December 31, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Boyd was born July 16, 1927, at home in his beloved Bluebell, Utah to Alfred Slade and Sylvia Ann Hancock Goodrich. He was the youngest of nine children.
He married Vera Louise Curtis on August 24, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with three daughters and one son, Susan (William) Orme of Springville, Utah, Curtis (Kim) Goodrich of Layton, Utah, Michelle (Rick) Stott of Meridian, Idaho and Renae (Brett) Nelson of Springville, Utah. He is a grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Boyd attended elementary school in Bluebell and in 1945 graduated from the Altamont High School where he served as Student Body President and was honored as the Valedictorian of his graduating class. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University and a Master's Degree from Los Angeles State University. He did post-master's work at Brigham Young University, University of Utah and Utah State University.
Boyd was an outstanding educator. He loved his work as a teacher, principal and eventually an administrator for Nebo School District serving as Assistant Superintendent for many years. After his retirement he worked for Brigham Young University supervising student teachers. He was a master teacher and loved educating students.
As a veteran of World War II, Boyd worked as an interviewer for personnel that were being discharged from active duty. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served off the coast of Korea on an aircraft carrier in personnel and records management. He was a member of the Springville American Legion and enjoyed his association with other veterans.
Boyd faithfully served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Central States Mission from 1953-1955. While working in the mission office as the Financial Secretary, he became acquainted with Sister Vera Curtis who was serving in the mission. After the completion of their missions they renewed their friendship and fell in love.
Boyd was always active in the LDS church and served diligently as Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, a member of the Stake High council, as Ward and Stake Sunday School Presidents, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and in leaderships of his High Priests Group. He especially enjoyed his service in a BYU student ward bishopric and working with the youth. He knew the scriptures well and was a master teacher in the gospel.
He sincerely loved his family and was the best husband and father. He enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. He was a wonderful example of a Christ-like life and was dearly loved by everyone.

Boyd will be missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Vera Curtis Goodrich and his four children who adored him. He dearly loved his 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, who all feel blessed to have him as their grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Sylvia Ann Hancock Goodrich, his eight brothers, Leonard, Alva, Rulon, Arvil, Howard, Evan, Norman, his only sister Ardith who died as an infant and his granddaughter Emilee Brooke Orme.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 900 East 200 North, Springville, Utah. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 6, 2015 at the Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 East 200 South in Springville and on Wednesday from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Missionary, Humanitarian or Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at www.ldsphilanthropies.org or through your local ward.
