Bob Horner, 81, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Central Utah Veteran's home in Payson, UT after suffering many years from pesticide poisoning acquired while working in apple orchards in Naches, Washington and Goshen, UT. Bob is finally at rest from the cares and turmoil's of this life.
Bob was born on Sunday, October 16 1932, in Yellville, Marion, AR, the son of the late Virgil M. Horner and the late Sarah Henrietta (Villines). He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years in 2011, Joan (McCauley) Horner, daughter of the late Reed McCauley and the late Minnie (Masullo).
He served in the Air Force with his last tour of duty in Presque Isle, MA. He and his wife than lived in Fresno, CA where their daughters were born. Moving to San Jose, CA until retirement to their apple orchard in Naches, Washington where Bob served as a Bishop. After selling the orchard they moved to Goshen, UT to work on an orchard there; then settled down in both Mt. Pleasant, UT and later in Springville, UT. While in San Jose, CA Bob, Joan and girls were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later sealed in the Oakland Temple.
Bob loved to smile and laugh and found much joy in serving others. He was friendly and loving and has many friends that will miss him. He lived for over a year at Jamestown Assisted Living in Provo, UT before moving to the VA home in Payson. Many thanks are in order for all the loving care given by many nurses, aids, and neighbors over the last 3 years.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Lynne Mabey (Duane) of Highland, UT and another daughter and her husband of Utah County; a brother Virgil M. Horner Jr (Gail) of Spokane, WA; sister Phyllis (Horner) Shea of Greeley, CO; sister in law and caregiver Shirley (McCauley) Morris (Ron); of Provo, UT; brother in law Dennis McCauley (Gloria) of Fresno, CA; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Viewing for family and friends from 3:00 to 3:30 pm Wednesday August 20, 2014 Wheeler Funeral Home, 211 E. 200 S., in Springville, Utah with a graveside service following at 4:00 pm in the Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 S. 400 E. in Springville, UT with military rites by the American Legion.
