Blake Gammell

July 6, 1924 — August 9, 2007

Blake Hansen Gammell passed away peacefully at his home on August 9, 2007 from causes incident to old age. He was born July 6, 1924 to William Ray and Carrie Elizabeth Hansen Gammell in Bingham Canyon, Utah.

He married Louise Clyde in the Logan Temple on July 1, 1946. The last two years since her death he has greatly missed her.

After completing high school at Bingham High, he went on to the University of Utah where he completed his pre-med requirements, and then to the University of Southern California where he received his "Doctorate of Dental Science" degree. Deciding he wanted to raise his family in Utah, he started practicing dentistry in Springville and did so for thirty-nine years.

He loved Arabian horses and until three years ago was involved in breeding, showing, and taking care of them. He attended horseshows throughout the United States and Canada winning many national awards. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family.

His second self -taught profession was that of a "builder" starting fifty-two years ago with a home for himself and then moving on to a home for his parents, his children, and also a dental office and cabin.

Having two children with severe problems, he did all he could to give them the best quality of life possible.

He learned during the great depression how to work hard and continued this hard work ethic throughout his life, mentoring many young men in Springville.

He is survived by his son, B. Clyde (Gayle) Gammell of Mapleton, UT; a daughter, Mary Louise (Don) Winkler of Sandy, UT; a son, Ray (Lori) Gammell of Mapleton; a son, John Scott Gammell of Sandy, UT; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, siblings: Erma June Welling and Geraldeen Doman. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a son (Bill), and sister, Lola Jeane.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers from Hospice Specialists who have so lovingly and patiently taken care of him the last two and a half years especially Brigitte Simmons. And a special thanks to Janet Neel for her love and kindness as "our angel" over the last 18 years.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, in the Hobble Creek West Stake, 555 South 600 East Springville, Utah. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 15th from 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville and 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Church prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Blake's name to RAH (Recreation and Habilitation). 815 North 800 West, Provo, Utah 84604.
