Beth Stevenson Brewster

August 28, 1918 — August 19, 2011

Beth Stevenson Brewster, 92, died August 19, 2011 at the home of her daughter Nancy in Mapleton, Utah. She was born in Ruth, Nevada on August 28, 1918 to John Henry Stevenson & Hilda Coffman Stevenson. She grew up in Garfield, Utah & attended Cypress High School.



She married Harold Ballard Richardson. They later divorced. She married Kyle Hayes Brewster & later divorced. She sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 21 years. She was a member of the "Forty-Niners" all her adult life. This was a returned missionary group from the LDS Swiss-German mission circa 1934-1939.



She moved to California at age 48 & began a new chapter. She retired from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, retired as a docent at the Oakland Museum, & sang in several area choruses. She was a member of the Symphony Guild, was a published author & prize winning poet, & enjoyed folk dancing until an auto accident made that impossible. She was a member of the Sierra Club & hiked the Sierras. She loved Elderhostel & traveled the world visiting every continent but one & she said she'd leave that one to the penguins.



Beth was preceded in death by her parents; a brother & sister; her sons, Robert Eugene Richardson, Kyle Stevenson Brewster, Randall Hayes Brewster; daughter, Stephanie B. Whitesides; & grandson, David Whitesides. She is survived by daughters: Nancy B. Athay, Mapleton, Utah & Crystine B. West (Chuck), Alameda, California; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren & many great-great-grandchildren.



A memorial service will be held at Mapleton City Park at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25th. This is open to family & friends. No tears will be allowed, at Mom's instructions. She will be buried at the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah. Arrangements handled by Wheeler Mortuary, Springville, Utah.
