Our sweet and loving mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and dear friend, Bertha Walters Eastman returned to our Father in Heaven Monday, September 10, 2012 after a brief, but valiant struggle with cancer at the age of 82. She was born the fourth of nine children, December 18, 1929 to Joseph Franklin and Elladean Doty Walters in Murray, Utah.
She attended schools in Murray and Orem High School. While living in Orem, she met her sweetheart, Gordon Ephraim Eastman. They were married January 21, 1947 in Orem and sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 22, 1960. They are the parents of eight children.
Bertha loved life and family and was a brilliant host for family get-togethers. Whether it was Brownie hikes, camping, sewing, cooking, gardening, baking cookies, decorating cakes or quilting, her hard work turned into treasured memories. Her garden flowers were a shared beauty and she was a true artist as she worked 45 years in various bakeries decorating cakes.
She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was always willing to serve others. Gordon and Bertha served an LDS Service Mission at the Unemployment Center in Spanish Fork, Utah in 1995. She served in many callings such as primary teacher, Cub Scout leader, camp and sports director, Relief Society President, compassionate service leader and always a caring visiting teacher.
