Avis Irene Burr Allen passed away on September 21, 2007 at her home. She fought a valiant fight to the very end. She was born April 19, 1914 in Marysvale, Utah to David and Annie Burr. She grew up in Marysvale, a place that always held a special spot in her heart.
She married Champ Allen April 15, 1936 in Richfield, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with four children, Gylan (Mary) Allen, Judy Allen (Pat-deceased) Hardee, Lark (Susan) Allen, and David (Chrys) Allen.
The family moved to Springville in 1946 where Champ started and operated Allen Cleaners for 46 years. During this time Avis was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including the primary, young women's, and relief society organizations. She was very talented and loved to cook, quilt, and sew both for her family and as vocations. She worked in the Nebo School District school lunch program and was a seamstress both for Allen Cleaners and for a drapery business. In addition she quilted many quilts for family members and others.
She and Champ square danced for 30 years. They were members of several local square dance clubs and traveled extensively attending regional and national conventions. Her square dance dresses were all sewn by her. Another special talent was a love for her friends and neighbors. Anyone who came to her home was treated to a meal no matter the time and circumstances. It was her way of showing love. Working in her yard brought satisfaction and beauty especially from the many roses that she grew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Champ, her parents, and four brothers, Neldon, Morris, Jay, and Douglas. She is survived by one brother, Lynn, and all of her children. She has 25 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
