A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Augusto met the love of his life one day after she got off school. It was love at first sight. 51 years later of marriage they are the proud parents of 6 children and 10 grandchildren.
Augusto had many passions. He loved the outdoors. He raced in the national bike tournaments, he swam competitively, and almost went to the cross-country wrestling before he hurt his knee in a practice injury.
During one soccer game in Colombia, an elder from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints told him of a gold bible. He decided to go to church with them to witness this mysterious bible made of gold. He was a bit disappointed to see the primary's prop of the Book of Mormon. But that was the beginning of a wonderful life with his savior and redeemer.
As the mission leader of the new Colombian mission, he traveled with a general authority in an old rickety airplane in a thunderstorm. It was one of his favorite stories of courage, faith and devotion to his god and religion.
He brought his family of 5 children to the United States in 1982. They lived in Florida for many years before moving to Utah. But he never forgot or stopped loving his home country of Colombia. He loved to tell stories of his adventures and political involvements.
Diabetic, he began dialysis in 2007. Since then he did not stop loving, teaching his family and all who would listen to his message of hope, and the restoration of the gospel. Sick and afflicted he still did his home teaching. He helped get a neighbor baptized after his wife had been a member for over 20 years. He traveled wherever anyone would take him and his wheelchair to bless the lives of others. He was a true disciple of Christ.
He was loved and cared for by all. We will miss him till we see him again.
