1922~2013
Arleta Mae Hicks Duncan Moon returned home to her Heavenly Father on May 19, 2013. Arleta was born in Sheffield, Illinois on November 3, 1922 to Roscoe (Ross) Moore Hicks and Alma Irene Viles. She was the second child of the two children. Her family moved from their home in Illinois to Kokomo Indiana where she grew up.
Arleta served her country, joining the Navy as a WAVE during World War II in 1944. She received her certification in X-Ray technology, and was honorably released in 1946. She married Richard Lamont Duncan. They had their "little blue eyed baby girl" Lisa Lynne Duncan May 24, 1957. She was the joy of her mother's life. They shared many beautiful adventures and moments together. Arleta was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings: Relief Society President twice, a Sunday School Teacher, Scout Leader, as well as a missionary, with both Arleta and her daughter serving missions, Arleta going to Portland, Oregon and Lisa going to Tallahassee, Florida. She also had a love for genealogy, and by working on her family tree found 14,582 names. In 1990 she met and after a wonderful courtship, married Myrthen Nephi Moon. Arleta will be remembered for her positive attitude her energetic spirit and sweet love for life.
Arleta is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lynne Duncan; her sister, Geraldine Fae Malicoat ; step-son, Richard R. Duncan; step-children Marilyn Hall (Glade), Carole Shelley, John Moon (Brenda) and Richard Moon (Diane). She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Freedom First Ward Chapel at 888 South Freedom Blvd in Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held an hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah following the services.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who worked with Arleta throughout her convalescence. Thank you for making her feel comfortable in her final days.
