Anthony (Tony) Hansen

December 10, 1904 — February 1, 2009

Anthony Hansen (Tony) passed from this mortal life on Sunday, February 1 at the age of 104.

Tony was born in Ephraim, UT to Thorvald & Laura Jensen Hansen on Dec. 10, 1904, the oldest of 5 children. He served an LDS mission in Northern California, then married Edna Blanche Thompson in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they had 4 children; Boyd, Betty (Mendenhall Stewart), Mark, and Brent.

They lived in Ephraim until 1954 when they left to serve the church supervising building construction in many different locations: Riverside Illinois, Lincoln Park Michigan, Las Vegas Nevada, Samoa, New Zealand, and Hawaii. They settled in Provo in 1961 where Tony was a new construction inspector at BYU.

In 1993, Blanch died after 65 years of marriage. Several months later Tony met Mary Crane; they were married in December of that year. Together, they purchased a small pioneer home in Spring City 9 years ago where they've lived until mid January of this year. He was always active, even building a bridge over their creek in Spring City out of telephone poles. He also loved to travel, whether by road (across the country many times, and from Central America to Alaska) or on one of many cruises.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Moyle, Lee, and Ted and sister, Verl, as well as his first wife, Blanche. He is survived by his wife Mary and all four of his children: Boyd & Betty in Spring City, Betty & Jay Stewart in Springville, Mark & Karen serving a mission in Salt Lake City, and Brent & Maria in Hollister, CA. There are 22 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

A Viewing will be at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville (211 E. 200 South) Friday evening Feb.6 from 7-9 PM. Graveside service will be in the Ephraim Cemetery, 11 A.M. on Saturday Feb.7. Later the same day, family and friends will gather at the home of Betty and Jay Stewart (1095 E. 300 North, Springville) at 4 P.M. to share memories of Tony's life.
