Ann (Miner) Makin

Ann Miner Makin, age 64 of Springville, Utah, passed away Oct. 22, 2021 after a prolonged illness.  She was born on August 15, 1957 to Richard Keith and Helen Clegg Miner.  She attended Springville Schools and actively participated in many G.A.A. sports and was the drummer for the Pep Club.  She graduated from Springville High School in 1975.

Ann worked many years as a Dental Assistant and an Orthodontic Technician.  She served faithfully from 1984-1985 in the Chile Concepcion Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Upon her return, she attended Brigham Young University and graduated with an Elementary Education Degree and later received her Masters Degree in English Language Learners and enjoyed a few semesters as an Adjunct Teacher at BYU.  She taught several different grade levels over the years at Goshen, Canyon, Brookside, and Art City Elementary Schools until her retirement.

While teaching in Goshen, she was part of a committee that was instrumental in hiring David Makin.  Over the next several months, there was a plot by the principal, secretary, and several teachers to get Ann and Dave together.  They were married January 17, 1997 in the Provo Utah Temple.  They were blessed with two sons, Sean Wallace and Matthew David.

She loved music and old movies, and could identify any leading actors and actresses from the 1940’s and on, as well as answer myriads of questions about movie trivia.  She followed her Mother’s love for the history of Springville and its people.  She had an engaging sense of humor and could spin a story to the delight of everyone around her.

Ann was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Ward Relief Society President, and in the Stake Relief Society Presidency.  Her favorite, however, was serving in the Primary Nursery with her husband.

She loved the kids she taught in school and was adored by both students and parents.  She made lasting friendships with teachers and staff and kept them laughing through lunch in the Faculty Room.

Nieces and nephews loved spending time with Ann and she loved spending time with them.  Together they went on many extended adventures much to their delight, and to the relief of their grateful parents.  She was like a second mother to them all.

Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed time spent with them whether on vacation to the Oregon Coast or watching a movie at home.

She is survived by her husband, David M. Makin, and her sons Sean W. and Matthew D. Makin all of Springville.  She is also survived by her siblings; Alan (Barbara) Miner, Springville, Jane Miner, Providence, UT., Mary (Tom) Cherrington, Providence, UT., Gary (Sharlene) Miner, Draper, UT., sister-in-law Rhea Miner, St. George, UT., many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and an uncle.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard L. Miner.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 878 W. Center Street, Springville, UT.  A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the same church building, and on Saturday just prior to the service from 11:30 – 12:30.  Burial will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
