Anja Kalinen Wrathall

Anja Kalinen Wrathall died peacefully in her home in Springville, Utah, surrounded by her family, on November 25th, 2015, at the age of 88.  Anja is survived by her husband Donald Wrathall; her children John Gustav-Wrathall (Goran), Mark Wrathall (Amy), Tina Dodge (John), Anne Wrathall, and Joseph Wrathall (Becky); her grandchildren Hannah Wrathall, Damon Wrathall, Madeline Lyman, Nicholas Wrathall, Christian Zarkades, Mirabel Zarkades, Gabriel Zarkades, and Glen Haslerud; and her siblings Valtteri Kalinen and Helina Mustonen.  She is preceded in death by her sister Eila Kalinen and her brother Taisto Kalinen.

Anja was born on September 26th, 1927 in Kuusjärvi, Finland to Aatami Kalinen and Hilma Nykänen Kalinen.  During Finland’s Winter War with the Soviet Union in 1939-40, when witnessing wounded soldiers returning from the front, she decided she wanted to be a nurse.  She received a degree in nursing, and went on to work as a nurse and later as Director Of Nursing in hospitals in Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and the United States.  She married her eternal partner on July 28th, 1962 in the Manti (LDS) Temple.  In addition to being a devoted and loving mother to her children, she worked as a temporary foster mother for babies, and served in numerous callings in her church.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 pm on Tuesday, December 1st at the LDS Hidden Cove Chapel at 2379 East River Bottom Road, Springville.  All are welcome to attend.  Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary at 211 East 200 South Street in Springville on Monday, November 30th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, and at the Chapel on Tuesday from 12 pm to 1 pm prior to services. Interment will be held immediately after the service at the Evergreen Cemetery, just west of Highway 89 at 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.

The family especially would like to thank Colette Johnson, Sue Hortin, and Lorena Serra for their loving and compassionate hospice care.
