Angus Sylvester Hales

April 15, 1911 — July 6, 2010

Angus Hales left his mortal existence on July 6, 2010. He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah to George and Sarah Ann Eliza Brockbank Hales on April 15, 1911, along with his twin sister. He was the youngest of 11 children.

He met and fell in love with Fawn Cowan. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 30, 1933. They enjoyed living together in Spanish Fork and Springville. They celebrated 74 years of marriage together before Fawn died in 2007.

Angus was a life long farmer and rancher. He loved the farm. In high school, Angus was a member of a judging team that won a trip to Kansas City, where they placed in the top three. Last summer, when he was 98, his grandson, Josh, rode in the cab of his tractor and let him drive while bailing hay.

He served as a 70, stake missionary, a member of the bishopric, High Priest group leader, and other positions.

He was happy that he lived in his own home to the end, with the help of his loving family, First Choice Home Health Care, and other caregivers. A special thanks goes out to Stephen Briggs and Teresa Covington for exceptional dedication in the caring of mother and dad for 5 years.

Angus was preceded in death by his wife, grandson Justin Leon Peterson, great-grandson Zachary Mark Bushman, and son-in-law Steve Alvord.

He is survived by three sons: Glade Cowan (Farres Diamond), Las Vegas, Nevada; J Allen (Kirstine Keel), Springville; and Lynn Ray (Sharon Horne), Spanish Fork; and three daughters: Loretta (Melvin) Ricks, Bonsall, Calif.; Marilyn (Mark) Bushman, Pleasant Grove; and June (Steve, deceased) Alvord, Glendale, Calif.; 34 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Springville 5th Ward Chapel at 245 South 600 East. There will be a viewing at the church starting at 10:30. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
